چکیده
Aim: This study was aimed to evaluate the duration dependent study to develop Plasmodium berghei infection in in vivo system. Methods: 200μl of infected blood containing 1X10 5 parasites was challenged in Swiss mice intraperitoneally for 5, 10 and 15 days. After sacrifice, parasitemia, O2 .generation, NADPH oxidase activity, NO generation of lymphocyte; MDA level, TrxR activity and haemolytic activity of infected RBC; activities of LDH, CRP level, SGOT and SGPT, NO release of serum; the MPO activity of serum, liver, spleen and kidney were studied. Results: O2 .generation, NADPH oxidase activity, NO generation of lymphocyte; LDH activity, CRP, SGOT, SGPT level and NO release of serum and TrxR, haemolytic activity were significantly increased than control; and also MDA level of infected RBC significantly increased as compared to control. These effects were the maximum after 10 days of challenge. Conclusion: The findings suggest that, P. berghei NK65 infection maximally develop after 10 days infection in Swiss mice.

Antiplasmodial, antioxidant and immunomodulatory activities of ethanol extract of Vernonia amygdalina del. Leaf in Swiss mice
Objective: Vernonia amygdalina (V. amygdalina) leaf is locally employed in the Southern region of Nigeria in the treatment of malari a infection. This study evaluated the in vivo antiplasmodial, antioxidant and immunomodulatory effect of ethanol extract of V. amygdalina leaf. Materials and Methods: The active principles of the dried leaf were extracted with ethanol. For quality validation, ch...
متن کاملAntioxidant activity of the methanol stem bark extract of Uapaca togoensis (pax) in mice exposed to Plasmodium berghei NK65
Background & Aim: Oxidative stress has been linked to the development of systemic complications in malaria infection. Recent approaches in treatment of malaria suggest that the control of oxidative stress in infected patients may be of therapeutic advantage. The stem bark and leaves of Uapaca togoensis are used locally in the treatment of various disease...

Antiplasmodial effects of the aqueous extract of Phyllantus amarus Schumach and Thonn against Plasmodium berghei in Swiss albino mice.
Phyllantus amarus Schumach and Thonn is a medicinal plant used commonly for the treatment of malaria-related symptoms by the general public in southeastern Nigeria. The present study determines the possible antiplasmodial effects of the aqueous extract of the leaves and stem of the plant against Plasmodium berghei infection using Swiss albino mice as models. The blood schizonticidal activity of...
متن کاملA critical role of Fc receptor-mediated antibody-dependent phagocytosis in the host resistance to blood-stage Plasmodium berghei XAT infection.
Plasmodium berghei XAT is an irradiation-induced attenuated variant derived from the lethal strain P. berghei NK65, and its blood-stage parasites are spontaneously cleared in immune competent mice. In the present study, we studied the mechanism of host resistance to blood-stage malaria infection using P. berghei XAT. Infection enhanced Ab-dependent phagocytosis of PRBC by splenic macrophages in...
